Imago in mundi is a purely visual artbook that explores the cinematic and literary universes of The Neverending Story, Michael Ende’s fantasy novel.
Through the use of graphics, imagery, and paper experimentation, our creative team set out to reconstruct the characters, landscapes, and narrative of The Neverending Story, reframing them through a more contemporary, geometric, and essential visual language — without stripping away the complexity of its world or the message it carries.
For instance, the Nothing — the story’s antagonist — is symbolised through the dominant presence of white space in the layout and by the gradual thinning of the pages as the book progresses. Similarly, the bond between Fantasia and the human world is rendered through two inks that run in parallel throughout the book, blue and yellow — a subtle echo of the colour pairing of the original German edition of the book, stitched quietly into every page.
